In Mark 2, four friends carry a paralyzed man to Jesus, refusing to let the crowd stand in their way. They come expecting Jesus to heal his body, but Jesus begins somewhere deeper: “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
This is a story reminds us that Jesus sees what others cannot. He sees the suffering of the man, the faith and burdens of his friends, the judgment of the religious leaders, and the expectations of the crowd. He sees beyond the immediate problem to the deeper work God is doing.
What happens when the healing we hope for doesn’t come in the way or on the timeline we expect? How do we trust Jesus in the middle of suffering, carry one another’s burdens, and receive the greater gift of forgiveness?
Through the story of the paralyzed man, we are invited to look again at Jesus, not simply as the one who can perform a miracle, but as the one who forgives, restores, and leads us toward life with God.
